Jack is always true to his kind nature. He has brought his authentic self to work each and every day. He conducts regular check-ins with his colleagues to see how they are, empathising with their feelings and stresses as the pandemic hit. He has continued to build rapport with all team members, volunteers, partner organisations and everyone else he meets to reflect the humanitarian nature and inclusivity of the organisation.
Jack gave people a sense of certainty and control when he had to contact all our volunteers to tell them that their international volunteering projects were not able to run during the Summer of 2020. Jack and a colleague personally called around 100 volunteers – sharing unfortunate news. The organisation received extremely positive feedback from the volunteers who were appreciative of the considerate contact. Jack continued to show courage when he took on a role as a ‘Quest Master’ for the organisation’s first virtual fundraising challenge, where fundraisers undertook their favourite activities to raise donations for refugees in Uganda. He truly connected to their plight and understood their motivations to help the abnormal seem normal. His resilience was encouraging not only to fundraisers but to other staff. Jack took the lead for this new fundraising initiative that was critical to us reaching our donation targets – he showed he could be very forward thinking to support the needs of our beneficiaries in times of great need.
